- Akenerji Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. is an integrated energy utility company that specializes in the generation, wholesale trading, import, export, and supply of electricity and natural gas. Founded in 1989 as Turkey's first private auto-producer power generation company and headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey, the company operates as an equal joint venture between Akkök Holding and Czech energy utility ČEZ Group, and trades on Borsa Istanbul under the ticker symbol AKENR. The company operates through two core business segments: Electricity Generation and Energy Trading. In its Electricity Generation segment, Akenerji operates a diversified generation fleet with an aggregate installed capacity of approximately 1,224 megawatts (MW), comprising thermal, hydroelectric, wind, and solar assets, including the 904 MW Erzin natural gas combined-cycle power plant in Hatay; seven run-of-river and reservoir hydroelectric power plants including Uluabat (100 MW), Feke I (29.4 MW), Feke II (69.4 MW), Gökkaya (28.5 MW), Himmetli (27.0 MW), Burç (27.3 MW), and Bulam (7.1 MW); the 28.2 MW Ayyıldız wind power plant in Balıkesir; and integrated hybrid solar installations. In its Energy Trading segment, the company provides structured energy products and wholesale market access, including bilateral contract electricity sales; wholesale power trading on the day-ahead, intraday, and over-the-counter (OTC) markets; physical and financial natural gas wholesale supply; balancing group management and market dispatch optimization for third-party independent power producers; cross-border electricity import and export; and environmental asset management solutions, including International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) issuance, carbon footprint tracking, and emissions reduction credit trading. The company serves industrial facilities, corporate commercial consumers, regional distribution companies, and energy traders across Turkey and broader European markets through subsidiaries such as Akenerji Elektrik Enerjisi İthalat-İhracat ve Toptan Ticaret A.Ş., Akenerji Doğalgaz İthalat İhracat ve Toptan Ticaret A.Ş., Akel Kemah Elektrik Üretim ve Ticaret A.Ş., and Netherlands-domiciled Aken Europe B.V.
In recent operational and strategic developments, Akenerji has advanced its hybrid renewable generation capacity, cross-border trading infrastructure, and balance sheet profile. The company expanded its renewable generation asset base by commissioning the 7.79 MW Erzin Solar Power Plant (GES) as an auxiliary hybrid generation unit at its primary natural gas combined-cycle facility. Internationally, the company expanded its European cross-border electricity trading footprint through its wholly owned subsidiary Aken Europe B.V., which secured a 20-year wholesale electricity trading license from Greece's Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water (RAAEY) to participate directly in Southeastern European power exchanges. In financial and capital structure management, Akenerji restructured its major credit facilities with key banking partners, executing loan amendment agreements that extended the maturity of outstanding syndicated loans to 2027 to optimize debt service obligations, reinforce liquidity, and fund ongoing renewable asset modernizations.
