Business
Endesa, S.A. (ELE.MC) is a Spain-based holding company primarily engaged in the generation, distribution, and sale of electricity and natural gas, as well as related energy services. Founded in 1944 and headquartered at Ribera del Loira 60 in Madrid, Spain, the company operates through key segments including Generation and Supply; Distribution; and Structure, serving approximately 10.2 million electricity customers and 1.8 million gas customers via 320,329 kilometers of distribution and transport networks; it maintains an installed generation capacity of 21,449 MW from diverse sources such as hydroelectric, nuclear, thermal, wind, and solar power plants primarily in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. Endesa generates electricity through its renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power España, which focuses on wind, hydraulic, and solar facilities; distributes power across 27 provinces in 10 Spanish autonomous communities covering over 195,000 square kilometers and 22 million inhabitants via e-distribution; supplies electricity and gas to nearly 7 million free-market customers through Endesa Energía and regulated tariffs via Energía XXI; and provides value-added services via Endesa X including energy efficiency advisory, distributed generation, demand management technology, electric vehicle charging infrastructure with vehicle-to-grid and battery second-life solutions, smart city developments, public lighting, connectivity solutions for municipalities, smart home equipment, and financial products for energy producers through origination and global trading activities in European wholesale markets including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, and Singapore. As a subsidiary of Enel Iberia Srl, Endesa targets residential, commercial, industrial, and public sector customers with a strategic emphasis on decarbonization, network digitization, and renewable expansion toward a net-zero generation mix by 2050. Recent developments include an 8% increase in its 2025-2027 strategic investment plan to a historic €9.6 billion, with €4 billion allocated to grid enhancements, €3.7 billion to renewables prioritizing hydroelectric and wind over solar for higher returns, and plans to grow its competitive customer base to 7.1 million; the acquisition of 100% of Corporación Acciona Hidráulica adding key hydroelectric assets expected to close in Q1 2025; and expanded partnerships with Masdar featuring 15-year power purchase agreements for solar photovoltaic facilities, building on a prior December 2024 deal for a 2 GW operational solar portfolio in Spain.
