Business
Century Enka Limited, established in 1965 as a joint venture between B.K. Birla Group and AKZO Nobel of Netherlands, manufactures synthetic yarns and tyre reinforcement fabrics at its facilities in Pune, Maharashtra, and Bharuch, Gujarat; the company operates as part of the Aditya Birla Group and serves domestic and international markets including apparel, technical textiles, and automotive sectors. Its core products encompass Nylon Filament Yarn (NFY), the largest production in India at 30,000 tons per annum, featuring monofilament, mother yarn, fully drawn yarn (FDY), partially oriented yarn (POY), high oriented yarn (HOY), drawn textured yarn (DTY), air textured yarn (ATY), draw winder yarns, and tow for applications in ethnic wear, activewear, industrial packaging, eco-green recycled yarns, and blends; Nylon Tyre Cord Fabric (NTCF), second-largest in India at 32,000 tons per annum, includes yarn, greige fabric, and dipped fabric for reinforcing bias tyres in motorcycles, scooters, light/medium/heavy commercial vehicles, farm equipment, and off-the-road vehicles; it also produces nylon industrial yarns for fish twines, conveyor belts, sports/active wear, and intimate wear under the Enkalon brand, with total capacity of approximately 92,000 MTPA. Recent strategic initiatives include the 2024 commencement of Polyester Tyre Cord Fabric (PTCF) production for passenger radial tyres, increasing overall capacity from 89,000 to 92,000 MT; significant capital expenditure on reinforcement capacities, downstream debottlenecking, and value-added NFY expansions like premium DTY, mother/mono yarns, dope-dyed, and recycled yarns; operational enhancements such as the Pune dipping plant startup to cut transportation costs and emissions; and investments in renewable power, solar panels, biomass steam generation, LNG replacement for furnace oil, zero water discharge, and nylon waste recycling into caprolactam.
