- Energy Infrastructure Trust (Ticker: BSE:ENERGYINF), formerly known as India Infrastructure Trust, is an India-based infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) that invests in and operates long-term energy and midstream infrastructure assets. The trust is primarily engaged in natural gas transmission and midstream logistical infrastructure management, holding 100 percent equity interest in its primary operating special purpose vehicle, Pipeline Infrastructure Private Limited (PIPL). The trust's core infrastructure asset is the East-West Pipeline (EWPL), a 1,480-kilometer, 48-inch bi-directional cross-country natural gas pipeline with an operational capacity of approximately 85 million standard cubic meters per day (MMSCMD), connecting Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to Bharuch in Gujarat.
Energy Infrastructure Trust provides a comprehensive suite of midstream gas logistics and infrastructure services, including: high-pressure cross-country natural gas transportation and transmission services across southern, central, and western India; firm and interruptible pipeline capacity reservation under long-term Gas Transportation Agreements (GTAs); open-access gas transmission facilitating third-party access for domestic exploration and production operators, liquefied natural gas (LNG) importers, and natural gas marketers; custody transfer, gas metering, pressure reduction, and flow control services at multiple receipt and delivery station points; pipeline interconnection and tie-in services connecting offshore gas fields, LNG import terminals, and downstream regional transmission networks; supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) monitoring, leak detection, and pipeline integrity management services; and comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) services for high-pressure midstream pipeline networks. The trust serves diverse end-user segments, including power utilities, fertilizer manufacturing facilities, oil refineries, petrochemical producers, industrial commercial consumers, and city gas distribution (CGD) networks supplying compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG).
Energy Infrastructure Trust was established as an irrevocable trust under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, in 2019, registered as an InvIT with SEBI in March 2019, and is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The trust is sponsored by entities affiliated with Brookfield Asset Management, with Brookfield India Infrastructure Manager Private Limited acting as the investment manager and Axis Trustee Services Limited serving as the trustee.
In recent developments, the trust completed a formal corporate rebranding and reorganization, transitioning its operating identity from India Infrastructure Trust to Energy Infrastructure Trust on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to better reflect its long-term strategic focus across the broader energy and transition infrastructure landscape. Over the past two years, the trust has executed major capital structure optimizations, successfully raising capital through multi-tranche non-convertible debentures (NCDs) and debt refinancing programs to reduce borrowing costs and extend its debt maturity profile. Operationally, the trust has entered into new and expanded gas transportation agreements to evacuate rising domestic natural gas volumes from deepwater blocks in the Krishna Godavari (KG) basin, including production from the KG-D6 and KG-DWN-98/2 developments. Additionally, the trust has expanded its physical interconnectivity with the unified national gas grid operated by GAIL (India) Limited and regional CGD networks, while initiating feasibility and pipeline integrity assessments to explore hydrogen-blended natural gas transportation in alignment with India's long-term clean energy transition goals.
