Business
Shahi Shipping Limited is an India-based maritime logistics and shipping services provider that specializes in coastal water transportation, lighterage operations, and port infrastructure support. Founded in 1985 and formerly known as SKS Logistics Limited, the company is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and operates primarily along the western coastline and inland waterways of India. Shahi Shipping Limited operates a specialized fleet of shallow-draft vessels, mini bulk carriers, liquid cargo tankers, flat-top barges, tugs, and utility craft engineered for coastal shipping and riverine navigation. The company provides a wide range of marine and logistics services organized across several core business segments, which include: lighterage operations, comprising ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore transshipment of dry bulk commodities such as iron ore, coal, clinker, and aggregates, as well as liquid cargo; coastal and inland waterway cargo transit, consisting of container feeder movements between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT), alongside regional general cargo transport; marine bunkering and fuel distribution, encompassing the transport and mid-stream delivery of heavy fuel oils, petroleum products, and marine lubricants; vessel utility and port support services, featuring offshore potable fresh water supply via dedicated water barges, harbor tug assistance, vessel towage, pilot launch operations, and mooring and unmooring assistance; and vessel management and chartering services, covering voyage and time charter arrangements for coastal vessels and customized marine craft. Shahi Shipping Limited primarily caters to public and private sector clients, including national defense establishments such as the Indian Navy, public sector oil marketing corporations such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), port trusts, domestic industrial manufacturers, and international shipping lines operating in Indian waters. In recent corporate and operational developments over the past one to two years, Shahi Shipping Limited has focused on corporate governance restructuring, fleet rationalization, and operational realignment. The company approved the reconstitution of board committees and the re-appointment of directors and statutory secretarial auditors at its 36th Annual General Meeting. Operationally, the company has streamlined its vessel deployment schedule to focus on higher-margin harbor utility contracts, fresh water supply, and contracted fuel distribution while scaling back low-margin speculative coastal charters. Furthermore, the company has actively pursued the administrative and legal resolution of historical indirect tax and state GST compliance proceedings to normalize its balance sheet and enhance operational stability across its western Indian coastal freight operations.
