Business
Frontline plc, a leading shipping company, owns and operates a fleet of oil and product tankers for the seaborne transportation of crude oil and refined petroleum products worldwide; its core assets include very large crude carriers (VLCCs), Suezmax tankers, and LR2/Aframax tankers, with activities encompassing vessel chartering, purchasing, and sales. As of December 31, 2024, the company operates 81 vessels, comprising 41 VLCCs, 22 Suezmax tankers, and 18 LR2/Aframax tankers. Frontline plc focuses on spot market exposure with one of the industry's youngest and most energy-efficient fleets, serving major oil producers, refiners, and traders across global trade routes. Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Limassol, Cyprus, the company is controlled by Hemen Holding Ltd., indirectly owned by John Fredriksen. Recent strategic moves include multiple debt refinancings, such as a $1,286.5 million senior secured term loan facility in April 2025 to refinance debt on 24 VLCCs ahead of maturity; a $239.0 million credit facility in February 2025; conversion of $405.5 million in term loans to revolving credit facilities in third quarter 2025; and a $512.1 million sale-and-leaseback agreement for 10 Suezmax tankers in Q4 2024, generating $101.0 million in net cash proceeds. These initiatives strengthen the balance sheet, reduce cash break-even rates, and enhance financial flexibility for potential fleet modernization estimated at $500-750 million.
