Business
Syngene International Limited is an innovation-led contract research, development, and manufacturing organization (CRDMO) headquartered in Bengaluru, India, established in 1994. The company offers integrated scientific services spanning discovery services including target identification, validation, lead optimization, and bioinformatics; development services comprising preclinical to clinical trial support, process development, formulation development, analytical R&D, and regulatory submissions; manufacturing services with cGMP-compliant facilities delivering clinical supplies, registration batches, and commercial manufacturing for both small and large molecules; and dedicated R&D centers providing customized scientific teams for client-specific projects. Syngene serves a diverse client base across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, agrochemicals, consumer goods, animal health, cosmetic, and nutrition sectors, operating globally with over 300 clients. Recent major developments include Syngene's strategic expansion of its biologics manufacturing capabilities through the acquisition of its first U.S. biologics facility from Emergent BioSolutions in Baltimore for $36.5 million, significantly increasing its bioreactor capacity from 20,000 liters to 50,000 liters. This acquisition enhances Syngene’s footprint in large molecule discovery, development, and manufacturing, enabling closer collaboration with U.S.-based biotech customers and supporting both human and animal health sectors. Additionally, the company is investing approximately $50 million in this U.S. biologics facility while developing a new GMP bioconjugation suite at its Bengaluru site to support end-to-end Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADC) development and manufacturing. Syngene also recently commenced operations at its Unit III in Bengaluru and is advancing preparations for the Bayview facility in the U.S. These initiatives form part of Syngene's broader strategy to triple its bio-manufacturing capacity by fiscal year 2026. Syngene’s service portfolio encompasses discovery chemistry and biology, process and formulation development, toxicology formulation, analytical and bioanalytical services, bioavailability and ADMET studies, animal health-related services, antibody drug conjugates, APIs, aseptic fill-finish, and clinical trial supply manufacturing. The company maintains a strong focus on adapting to evolving biotech funding environments, expanding into new biologic modalities such as peptides and ADCs, and bolstering its global clinical trial and manufacturing infrastructure. Overall, Syngene International functions as a comprehensive CRDMO platform offering an end-to-end drug discovery, development, and manufacturing ecosystem with a significant and growing global presence in both small molecule and biologics segments. It remains a subsidiary of Biocon Limited, headquartered in Bengaluru, India, and continues to advance its capabilities and capacity through strategic acquisitions, investments, and service expansions to serve global pharmaceutical and biotech clients effectively.
