Business
Aerostar SA is a Romania-based aerospace and defense manufacturing and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider. Founded in 1953 and headquartered in Bacau, Romania, the company operates across three core business segments: Commercial Aviation Maintenance, Aerostructures and Aeronautical Components Manufacturing, and Defense Systems and Military Aircraft Modernization. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of products and services, including base and line maintenance, heavy checks, structural inspections, cabin reconfigurations, avionics retrofits, and component overhaul for commercial narrow-body aircraft, specifically the Airbus A320 family (A318, A319, A320, A321, and A320neo series) and the Boeing 737 Classic, Next Generation, and MAX series; manufacturing, precision multi-axis CNC machining, sheet metal forming, non-destructive testing, automated surface treatments, and assembly of airframe structural components, subassemblies, landing gear components, hydraulic and pneumatic actuators, and electrical wiring harnesses for global commercial and defense aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier-1 suppliers; maintenance, repair, overhaul, and life-extension programs for military fixed-wing aircraft and trainer fleets, including IAR-99 and L-39 platforms; depot-level maintenance and fleet support for Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft; maintenance, repair, overhaul, and technical sustainment for ground-based artillery and rocket systems, notably the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers, as well as ground support equipment for air defense systems; and defense electronics services encompassing ground and airborne radar modernization, Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems, and tactical communication systems integration. Aerostar SA serves commercial passenger and cargo airlines, aircraft leasing companies, global aerospace prime contractors, and national defense ministries across Romania, wider Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. In recent major strategic and operational developments, Aerostar SA expanded its defense partnerships by solidifying its role as the national maintenance and sustainment center for Romania's fleet of Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter aircraft, performing comprehensive depot-level MRO and technical upgrades. The company also entered into a strategic industrial cooperation agreement with Lockheed Martin to establish a dedicated regional sustainment and MRO center in Bacau for the M142 HIMARS multiple rocket launcher systems deployed in Central and Eastern Europe. Additionally, Aerostar SA expanded its commercial MRO throughput by scaling operations at its dedicated maintenance facility located at Iasi International Airport, upgraded its manufacturing capabilities with high-precision multi-axis machining centers and automated chemical processing lines, and completed major photovoltaic solar power installations at its main manufacturing site to enhance operational resilience and sustainability.
