- Socep SA is a Romania-based port operator and logistics service provider primarily engaged in stevedoring, cargo handling, warehousing, and intermodal transshipment operations at the Port of Constanța on the Black Sea. Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Constanța, Romania, the company conducts its operations through two primary business divisions: the Container Terminal and the General Cargo Terminal. Socep SA provides a comprehensive portfolio of maritime and terminal services, comprising container loading, discharging, and transshipment; container stuffing, stripping, and freight station management; refrigerated container storage and temperature monitoring via dedicated reefer connection plugs; dry bulk, break-bulk, and general cargo handling; short- and long-term warehousing across covered transit facilities, climate-controlled cold storage for perishable goods, and heavy-duty open storage platforms; specialized handling and storage of agricultural commodities, cereals, oleaginous seeds, fertilizers, chemical products, timber, and metallurgical goods; heavy-lift and oversized project cargo stevedoring; dangerous goods (IMO-classified cargo) handling; automated bulk cargo bagging, palletizing, sorting, and screening; and cargo securing, lashing, unlashing, and customs forwarding coordination, supported by direct on-dock road and railway network connections. In recent operational developments, Socep SA has executed extensive capital investment programs aimed at modernizing its terminal infrastructure and substantially increasing throughput capacity. Central to these developments is the multi-phase construction and operational expansion of a high-capacity deep-water grain terminal engineered to accommodate Panamax-class vessels of up to 67,000 DWT with drafts up to 13.5 meters. In support of Phase II of this grain facility, the company secured a major EUR 10.4 million equipment procurement agreement with Switzerland-based Bühler GmbH to deploy high-speed conveying, intake, and automated ship-loading systems designed to double terminal handling performance to 1,600 tonnes per hour. Furthermore, Socep SA has advanced the continuous modernization of its container operations through targeted acquisitions of high-efficiency ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes and rubber-tired gantry (RTG) equipment, expanding terminal operational velocity to capture heightened trade flows and transit cargo across the Black Sea and Central and Eastern European transport corridors.
