- Acerías Paz del Río S.A. is a Colombia-based integrated steel manufacturing and mining company engaged in the extraction of mineral resources and the production, transformation, and commercialization of long steel products and agricultural soil amendments. The company operates through two main business divisions: Steel and Metallurgy, and Mining and Agro-industrial By-Products. Its core product portfolio includes reinforcing steel bars (rebar) for structural concrete reinforcement; low, medium, and high-carbon wire rod for drawing, wire mesh, and fastener manufacturing; merchant steel profiles, including equal angles, standard channels, flat bars, and square bars; drawn wire products, such as galvanized wire, high-tensile barbed wire, annealed tying wire, and staple wire; electro-welded wire reinforcement mesh; and semi-finished metallurgical materials, including steel billets, pig iron, and metallurgical coke. In addition to its metallurgical operations, the company processes mining minerals to produce agro-industrial by-products, including Thomas slag phosphate fertilizers (Escorias Thomas), agricultural lime, quicklime, and hydrated lime. Acerías Paz del Río S.A. serves customers across the residential and infrastructure construction, metalworking, civil engineering, industrial manufacturing, and agricultural sectors throughout Colombia and neighboring regional export markets. Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Belencito, Nobsa (Boyacá), with corporate offices in Bogotá, Colombia, the company operates the only fully integrated blast-furnace steelworks in the country. In recent corporate developments, the company underwent a major ownership transition following the acquisition of an 82.5% controlling equity stake by a consortium led by Colombian investment firm Trinity Capital alongside Structure Banca de Inversión from Brazil-based conglomerate Votorantim S.A. Following the acquisition, the company implemented a multi-year modernization and decarbonization roadmap across its Belencito manufacturing complex, investing in blast furnace energy efficiency upgrades, increased scrap metal circularity and recycling capacity, optimized logistics infrastructure, and expanded sustainable steel solutions for the domestic construction market.
