Business
PLS Group Limited (PLS.AX), formerly Pilbara Minerals Limited, operates as a global producer of lithium materials through its ownership of the Pilgangoora Operation, the world's largest independent hard-rock lithium mine located in Western Australia's Pilbara region; the operation produces high-quality spodumene concentrate and tantalite concentrates for the lithium-ion battery supply chain and other industrial applications. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in West Perth, Australia, the company explores, develops, and mines lithium and tantalum resources, with primary customers in China and other international markets driving demand for electric vehicles, energy storage, and clean energy technologies. PLS Group maintains a diversified growth strategy, including expansions at Pilgangoora such as the completed P680 crushing and ore sorting facility adding 100,000 tonnes per annum of spodumene production capacity, a battery energy storage system for its power strategy, and natural gas delivery to reduce emissions and costs. Recent developments encompass the acquisition of Latin Resources and its Colina lithium project in Brazil, marking the company's first international asset with resumed exploration drilling in 2025; completion of the acquisition of Latin Resources in early 2025; progression of a mid-stream demonstration plant project with Calix, supported by a $15 million grant from the Western Australian Government; and extension of a lithium chemicals joint venture study with Ganfeng Lithium to December 2027 following evaluation of over 1,000 sites. The company demonstrates strong operational performance, achieving record spodumene production of 754,600 tonnes in FY25 alongside cost reductions and safety improvements including the launch of the MineStar Fleet Management System.
