Chimera Investment Corporation is a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) specializing in investing in diversified mortgage assets for its own account and on behalf of third-party clients through investment management and advisory services. The company’s core portfolio comprises residential mortgage loans, including non-agency and agency residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS); commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS); mortgage servicing rights (MSRs); business purpose and investor loans, including residential transition loans (RTLs); junior liens; home equity lines of credit (HELOCs); equity appreciation rights; and reverse mortgages. Chimera employs a hybrid investment approach combining direct residential loans and mortgage-backed securities, utilizing securitization and leverage to optimize portfolio allocation and liability management. The company primarily operates in the United States and manages investment-grade, non-investment grade, and non-rated securities secured by multifamily properties and other residential mortgage assets. Founded in 2008, Chimera is headquartered in New York, New York. Recent major changes include Chimera’s strategic acquisition of HomeXpress on October 1, 2025, for approximately $240 million in cash. HomeXpress, based in Santa Ana, California, is a significant wholesale originator and servicer of non-qualified mortgage (non-QM) loans, business purpose loans, and various agency and non-agency mortgage products across 46 states and Washington D.C. This acquisition expanded Chimera’s platform capabilities, diversified its portfolio, and strengthened its market position in residential credit assets. Additionally, in 2024 Chimera acquired the alternative asset manager Palisades, further complementing its investment management and advisory services. The company has also implemented inducement grants under the NYSE corporate governance rules, reflecting ongoing operational adjustments. Chimera continues to focus on growing earnings and diversifying its investment portfolio while maintaining a commitment to long-term shareholder value.
