Business
Cortland Bancorp is a bank holding company for The Cortland Savings and Banking Company, providing a range of commercial and retail banking services primarily in Northeastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Its core offerings include deposit products such as demand and time deposits, savings, money market, and checking accounts; various commercial loans including commercial, financial, real estate construction and development, commercial real estate, small business lending, and trade financing; consumer loans including residential real estate, home equity, and installment loans; and trust and wealth management services under the brand Cortland Private Wealth Management, which offers estate planning, qualified retirement plans, mutual funds, annuities, life insurance, fixed income and equity securities, equity research and recommendations, and asset management. It also provides brokerage services through partnerships, as well as electronic banking services like Internet and mobile banking, automated teller services, night depository, and safe deposit boxes. Founded in 1892 and headquartered in Cortland, Ohio, Cortland Bancorp operated 13 banking offices before its major corporate change. In 2021, Cortland Bancorp was acquired by Farmers National Banc Corp and merged into Farmers National Bank, marking a significant strategic expansion for Farmers in Northeast Ohio. This transaction resulted in Cortland's operations and branches being integrated into Farmers National Bank, with Farmers' assets increasing to over $4.1 billion and wealth management assets rising to more than $3 billion, establishing Farmers as one of Ohio's largest community banks. The acquisition expanded Farmers' footprint in attractive Northeast Ohio markets such as Summit and Portage counties, while integrating Cortland's customer base and team into Farmers' platform. This merger brought operational consolidation and broadened service offerings across the merged entity's regional network. Cortland Bancorp ceased trading as an independent public company following the merger. The acquisition reflects a strategic focus on scaling local market presence and enhancing comprehensive financial service offerings to community customers in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
