Business
Rockwell Collins, Inc. designs, produces, and supports a comprehensive range of aviation and communication electronics primarily for commercial and military customers globally. Its core product portfolio includes integrated cabin electronics systems; avionics systems such as navigation, communication, synthetic vision, and flight management systems; electro-mechanical systems; cabin interior products including commercial aircraft seats, galley structures, lighting, oxygen, water and waste systems; landing sensors; weather radar and collision avoidance systems; flight controls; simulation and training systems; and aftermarket services. The company also provides information management services encompassing voice and data communication networks, cabin connectivity, cybersecurity as a service, flight support services, airport communications, and mission-critical security systems. Rockwell Collins serves original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of air transport, business, and regional aircraft, commercial airlines, the U.S. Department of Defense, other ministries of defense, government agencies, defense contractors, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, passenger and freight railroads, airports, critical infrastructure, and business aircraft operators. Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rockwell Collins expanded its aircraft cabin interiors capabilities significantly by acquiring B/E Aerospace in 2017, adding products such as seating, food and beverage preparation and storage equipment, lighting, oxygen systems, and modular galley and lavatory systems for commercial and business aircraft. In recent years, Rockwell Collins became part of Collins Aerospace, a business unit of RTX Corporation, following its acquisition by United Technologies in 2018. The company is currently undergoing strategic operational changes, including the pending disposition of its actuation and flight control business segments, with parts of this business acquired by Safran approved by the European Commission in 2025. This divestiture aligns with Collins Aerospace’s focus on advanced aerospace and defense products alongside aftermarket service solutions. Rockwell Collins continues to innovate and grow through new program awards in defense and commercial aftermarket sectors and maintains significant investment in flight deck avionics, simulation, and training systems as well as cybersecurity and connectivity services. Rockwell Collins operates globally with a strong presence in North America, Europe, and other regions, supporting a diverse customer base including commercial airlines, military, government agencies, and airports. Its advanced technology center, the Donald R. Beall Advanced Technology Center, focuses on research and development in radio systems, communications, navigation, and embedded information systems to drive future growth. The company’s acquisition of ARINC in 2013 and Athena Technologies in 2008 enhanced its information management and avionics capabilities, further strengthening its market position in aviation electronics and communication solutions. Overall, Rockwell Collins stands as a leading provider of integrated aerospace systems and components with a broad geographic reach and a comprehensive range of products and services that support both commercial and defense aviation sectors worldwide, backed by a long history since its founding and continuous strategic evolution through acquisitions and business realignment. This description reflects Rockwell Collins' current operations, main products, and recent significant changes including acquisitions, divestitures, and business restructuring up to 2025.
