Business
CytoSorbents Corporation (NASDAQ: CTSO), founded in 1997 and headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, develops and commercializes blood purification technologies for treating life-threatening conditions in intensive care units, cardiac surgery, and other critical care settings. The company's proprietary platform employs biocompatible, highly porous polymer beads for pore capture and surface adsorption to remove toxic substances, inflammatory cytokines, blood thinners, myoglobin, bilirubin, and other harmful agents from blood and bodily fluids using standard extracorporeal systems such as dialysis machines, CRRT, ECMO, and heart-lung machines. Core products include the flagship CytoSorb, a cytokine adsorber approved in the European Union with CE mark extensions for bilirubin and myoglobin removal in liver disease and trauma, and ticagrelor and rivaroxaban removal in cardiothoracic surgery, distributed in over 70 countries with more than 250,000 devices used to date; CytoSorb 300 for restoring physiological balance in critical care; PuriFi for independent hemoadsorption therapy; ECOS-300CY for ex vivo organ perfusion; VetResQ for veterinary applications available in the U.S.; and products under development such as CytoSorb-XL, HemoDefend-RBC, HemoDefend-BGA, K+ontrol, DrugSorb, and ContrastSorb. CytoSorbents targets sepsis, trauma, burns, ARDS, liver failure, cytokine release syndrome, pancreatitis, rhabdomyolysis, and perioperative bleeding in high-risk cardiothoracic surgery, serving hospitals and clinics globally with a focus on Europe, Asia, and other regions outside the U.S. In recent developments, the company reported third quarter 2025 revenue of $9.5 million, up 10% year-over-year, with gross margins exceeding 70%, and amended its credit agreement with Avenue Capital Group for an additional $2.5 million in cash, extending the interest-only period through December 2026 and providing further flexibility tied to DrugSorb-ATR approval. In September 2024, CytoSorbents submitted a De Novo request to the U.S. FDA for DrugSorb-ATR to reduce perioperative bleeding in CABG patients on ticagrelor, accepted for review in October 2024, though a denial letter issued on April 25, 2025, cited deficiencies now under appeal with a final decision expected in 2025; the company also achieved MDSAP certification and submitted a Medical Device License application to Health Canada in November 2024, anticipating approval in 2025. Additionally, CytoSorbents announced a rights offering in December 2024 to bolster liquidity ahead of potential DrugSorb-ATR launches and pursued strategic growth toward cash flow breakeven in early 2026.
