- Chevron Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged in the exploration, development, production, transportation, processing, refining and marketing of crude oil, natural gas and energy-related products. Founded in 1879 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, the company operates principally through Upstream and Downstream segments, with activities in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Its common stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CVX.
Chevron’s Upstream operations include exploration for and production of crude oil, natural gas liquids and natural gas; development and operation of conventional, deepwater and shale assets; gathering, processing, storage and transportation of hydrocarbons; liquefied natural gas processing, liquefaction, shipping, regasification and marketing; pipeline transportation; gas-to-liquids operations; and carbon capture and storage activities. The company holds significant positions in the U.S. Permian Basin and Gulf of America, the Tengizchevroil venture in Kazakhstan, Australian LNG operations, and Guyana offshore developments acquired through Hess Corporation. Chevron also operates and invests in international oil-export pipelines and natural-gas infrastructure.
Chevron’s Downstream business refines crude oil into transportation and industrial products; markets crude oil, refined petroleum products and lubricants; manufactures and markets renewable fuels; and transports crude oil and finished products through pipelines, marine vessels, trucks and railcars. Its product portfolio includes gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, marine fuels, fuel oils, base oils, lubricants, asphalt, petroleum coke, liquefied petroleum gas, renewable diesel and biodiesel-related products. The company markets fuels and lubricants through Chevron, Texaco and Caltex brands and supplies commercial, industrial, aviation, marine, retail and wholesale customers. Chevron also manufactures and markets commodity petrochemicals, industrial plastics, fuel additives and lubricant additives. Its refining network includes facilities in the United States and international operations in Thailand, South Korea and Singapore.
Recent strategic developments include Chevron’s completion of the acquisition of Hess Corporation in July 2025, which expands its upstream portfolio through interests in offshore Guyana, the Bakken shale region and Gulf of America assets, while adding Hess Midstream-related operations. Chevron has also continued to emphasize higher-return upstream growth, including development and production expansion in the Permian Basin, Gulf of America, Kazakhstan and LNG businesses, alongside an enterprise structural cost-reduction program. In December 2025, the company announced a 2026 capital-expenditure budget of $18 billion to $19 billion. In 2026, Chevron and ZL Chemicals announced a technology-licensing agreement for advanced chemical surfactant technology, extending Chevron’s commercial activities in specialty chemical technologies.
