Business
Deltic Timber Corporation, formerly a natural resources company engaged in timberland ownership, harvesting, lumber manufacturing, medium density fiberboard (MDF) production under the Solidium brand, and real estate development, merged with Potlatch Corporation in February 2018 to form PotlatchDeltic Corporation (Nasdaq: PCH). PotlatchDeltic owns approximately 2.1 million acres of timberlands across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina; operates six sawmills producing dimension lumber, boards, timbers, and by-products including wood chips, shavings, sawdust, and bark; runs an industrial-grade plywood mill; and maintains a taxable REIT subsidiary for residential and commercial real estate development, rural timberland sales, land leasing for hunting, oil, and gas rights, plus a country club operation. The company, founded originally as Potlatch Lumber Company in 1903 and headquartered in Spokane, Washington with key offices in El Dorado, Arkansas; Atlanta, Georgia; and operations in seven additional states, targets wholesale distributors, retailers, industrial users, homebuilders, and developers in the U.S. timber, wood products, and real estate sectors. In the latest major development, PotlatchDeltic agreed on October 14, 2025, to an all-stock merger of equals with Rayonier Inc., creating a $7.1 billion land resources REIT with roughly 4.2 million acres of U.S. timberlands, enhanced wood products manufacturing capacity of 1.2 billion board feet of lumber and 150 million square feet of plywood annually, and combined real estate operations including PotlatchDeltic's Chenal Valley in Little Rock, Arkansas; the deal, valuing the enterprise at $8.2 billion including net debt, awaits shareholder and regulatory approvals for closure in late Q1 or early Q2 2026. This follows PotlatchDeltic's 2022 merger with Catchmark Timber Trust, Inc., expanding its sustainable forest management portfolio. PotlatchDeltic emphasizes responsible stewardship, sustainable yield practices, and optimization of land resources for timber, manufacturing, and higher-value uses.
