The Walt Disney Company is a global entertainment and media enterprise that develops, produces and distributes film, television and streaming content; operates sports media through ESPN; and owns and manages theme parks, resort hotels, cruise lines and consumer products tied to its intellectual property portfolio. Founded in 1923 by Walter Elias Disney and headquartered in Burbank, California, the company operates through Disney Entertainment, ESPN and Disney Experiences, serving consumers worldwide across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. Its core offerings include theatrical motion pictures; television production and distribution; direct-to-consumer streaming services such as Disney+ and Hulu; the ABC broadcast network and cable channels; live sports programming and digital sports products; theme park admissions, resorts, vacation experiences and cruises; licensed merchandise; publishing and comics; and character-based experiences and brand extensions. In recent strategic developments, Disney completed the rollout of Hulu as its global general entertainment brand in October 2025 and announced plans to unify Disney+ and Hulu into a single app experience to deepen personalization and subscriber value. The company also launched ESPN Unlimited and a substantially enhanced ESPN app in August 2025, marking the first time ESPN’s full suite of networks and services is available direct to consumers, while the ESPN tile was added to Disney+ in December 2024. In Experiences, Disney is expanding theme parks worldwide, including the largest expansion ever of Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, five additional cruise ships scheduled beyond fiscal 2026, and a new theme park resort planned for Abu Dhabi on Yas Island in partnership with Miral. Disney has also expanded its content-licensing and digital-platform strategy through a September 2025 agreement with WEBTOON Entertainment to create a new digital comics platform featuring current and archive comics from Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Studios, alongside a planned approximately 2% equity investment in WEBTOON. In December 2025, Disney announced a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI and a three-year licensing deal allowing more than 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars characters to be used in OpenAI’s Sora video tool, while Disney itself becomes a major OpenAI customer for product and experience development.
