Business
Bright Minds Biosciences Inc. (NASDAQ:DRUG; TSX-V:DRUG), a biotechnology company, develops novel selective serotonin 5-HT receptor agonists to treat severe neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, including drug-resistant epilepsy such as absence epilepsy and developmental epileptic encephalopathies (DEE), treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, pain, Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) hyperphagia, and impulse control disorders like binge eating; its lead product candidate BMB-101, a highly selective Gq-protein biased 5-HT2C agonist, has completed Phase 1 trials demonstrating favorable safety and pharmacodynamics and is currently advancing in the open-label BREAKTHROUGH Phase 2 trial for absence epilepsy and DEE as well as the NOVA Phase 2a trial for PWS, while additional pipeline candidates include BMB-105 for PWS, BMB-201 and BMB-202 selective 5-HT2A agonists for neuropsychiatry and neurology indications, and other 5-HT2C/A agonists targeting epilepsy, pain, and neuropsychiatric conditions. Founded in 2017 and headquartered at 19 Vestry Street in New York, New York, the company operates primarily in the United States with collaborations including the National Institutes of Health for epilepsy, University of Texas Medical Branch for impulse control disorders, and Medical College of Wisconsin, and targets patients with high unmet needs in central nervous system disorders through its proprietary chemistry platform enabling chronic dosing without 5-HT2B activity. Recent developments include closing a US$35 million non-brokered private placement in November 2024 led by healthcare-focused investors such as Cormorant Asset Management, RA Capital Management, Perceptive Advisors, Janus Henderson Investors, Vivo Capital, Acuta Capital Partners, and Schonfeld Strategic Advisors to fund clinical programs into 2026; launching the PWS program with BMB-105 nomination and Phase 1 healthy volunteer study alongside Phase 2a NOVA initiation for BMB-101 in November 2025; announcing positive DBA/2 mouse model data for BMB-101 showing complete elimination of drop attacks and 100% survival; adding four Scientific Advisory Board members for PWS and BMB-101/105 support in November 2025; completing Phase 1 topline data for BMB-101; receiving a favorable patent opinion for BMB-202; and planning an R&D Day on absence seizures and BREAKTHROUGH study for May 20, 2025, with topline epilepsy data targeted for early January 2026.
