Business
Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, a leading medical technology company listed on the MDAX and TecDAX indices of the German stock exchange (AFX.DE), develops and markets innovative technologies and application-oriented solutions for ophthalmology and microsurgery. The company offers one of the most comprehensive product portfolios in ophthalmology, including systems and consumables for cataract and corneal refractive surgery; diagnostic and therapeutic devices for managing chronic eye diseases such as glaucoma and retinal disorders; solutions for posterior eye segment diagnosis and treatment; and digitally connected workflow tools incorporating machine learning and artificial intelligence for data management and automation. In microsurgery, it provides complete visualization solutions for minimally invasive procedures in neurosurgery, ear-nose-throat surgery, spine surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and dentistry. Founded in 2002 as a subsidiary of Carl Zeiss AG through the merger of ZEISS's ophthalmic business with laser technology maker Asclepion Meditec AG, the company is headquartered in Jena, Germany, with significant operations in over 50 countries, including major employee bases in the USA, Japan, Spain, France, India, and China. In April 2024, Carl Zeiss Meditec completed the acquisition of Dutch Ophthalmic Research Center (D.O.R.C.) from Eurazeo SE, integrating D.O.R.C.'s EVA NEXUS platform and vitreoretinal surgery portfolio to enhance its ophthalmic offerings, particularly in retina and posterior segment procedures, and to expand digitally connected end-to-end workflows for surgeons.
