Akzo Nobel N.V. (AKZA.AS) manufactures and sells paints and performance coatings worldwide, operating primarily through two segments: Decorative Paints and Performance Coatings; the former offers interior and exterior decorative and protective paints, lacquers, varnishes and surface preparation products for professional and do-it-yourself markets under brands including Dulux and Sikkens, while the latter encompasses automotive and specialty coatings, industrial coatings for coil, extrusion, packaging and wood finishes, marine and protective coatings, powder coatings and yacht coatings under brands such as International and Interpon. The company, formed in 1994 through the merger of Akzo and Nobel Industries and headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, maintains activities in more than 150 countries, serving industries including construction, automotive, aerospace, marine, packaging, energy, agriculture and consumer goods with approximately 34,600 employees and over 200 manufacturing facilities. In November 2025, Akzo Nobel N.V. entered into a definitive all-stock merger of equals agreement with Axalta Coating Systems Ltd., creating a premier global coatings company with an enterprise value of approximately $25 billion, diversified brands across powder, aerospace, refinish, mobility, marine, protective, industrial and decorative paints, operations in over 160 countries, combined annual R&D spend of $400 million and expected pre-tax run-rate synergies of $600 million primarily from procurement, SG&A, footprint optimization and supply chain efficiencies; Akzo Nobel shareholders are set to receive a $2.5 billion dividend payout and own 55% of the combined entity.
