Business
Airbus SE is Europe's largest aerospace company, engaged in the design, manufacture and delivery of commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence systems and space solutions. The company produces the A220, A320, A330 and A350 families of commercial passenger aircraft; military transport aircraft including the A400M and A330 MRTT; a broad range of civil and military helicopters under the H125, H135, H145, H160, H175 and NH90 series through Airbus Helicopters; Eurofighter combat aircraft and other defence platforms; as well as satellites, launchers, orbital infrastructure and earth observation systems via Airbus Defence and Space. Airbus provides associated services encompassing maintenance, training, digital solutions and sustainability initiatives such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development. Founded in 1970 with roots tracing back over 50 years through predecessor companies, Airbus SE is headquartered in Leiden, the Netherlands, and operates more than 180 sites worldwide across Europe, North America, Asia and other regions, serving commercial airlines, governments, militaries and space agencies. In recent developments, Airbus inaugurated a second A320 Family final assembly line at its U.S. manufacturing facility in Mobile, Alabama, in October 2025, doubling A320 production capacity there as part of a global ramp-up targeting 75 monthly A320 Family aircraft by 2027 and adding approximately 1,000 jobs. The company launched the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Financing Alliance (SAFFA) investment fund in 2024 with partners including Air France-KLM, BNP Paribas and Qantas Airways, committing around $200 million to accelerate SAF production using waste-based feedstocks and existing infrastructure. Airbus achieved first delivery of the A321XLR long-range aircraft in 2024, secured major defence orders such as Spain's 25 additional Eurofighter jets and Germany's SATCOMBw 3 satellite contract, and advanced plans to acquire select Spirit AeroSystems assets for A320 and A350 programmes in 2025 to enhance supply chain resilience.
