Business
Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt (S.A.E.) is an Egypt-based financial institution that provides a comprehensive range of commercial, retail, corporate, and investment banking products and services conducted in accordance with Islamic Sharia principles. Founded in 1977 and commencing commercial operations in 1979 as the first Islamic commercial bank in Egypt, the bank is headquartered in Giza, Egypt, and operates an extensive nationwide network of branches and automated teller machines across Egyptian governorates. The bank operates through four primary business segments: Retail Banking, Corporate Banking, Investment and Treasury, and Social and Development Banking. Its retail banking offerings include Islamic current accounts, savings accounts, and long-term investment certificates, including three-year, five-year, and seven-year Sharia-compliant deposit certificates; personal consumer financing facilities structured under Murabaha arrangements, such as auto finance, home appliance finance, medical treatment finance, and education finance; Sharia-compliant residential real estate financing and mortgage solutions utilizing Ijarah Muntahia Bittamleek and diminishing Musharaka structures; electronic and card payment products, including Meeza debit cards, prepaid cards, and Islamic covered credit cards; and digital banking services consisting of online banking, mobile banking applications, electronic wallets, and SMS notification services. Its corporate and commercial banking portfolio includes working capital financing; medium- and long-term project financing; syndicated credit facilities structured via Murabaha, Musharaka, Mudaraba, Istisna'a, and Salam contracts; trade finance instruments comprising commercial letters of credit, documentary collections, and letters of guarantee; specialized financing programs tailored for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises; and institutional cash management and corporate payroll services. Its investment and treasury operations encompass Islamic liquidity management; foreign currency exchange services; investments in Islamic Sukuk and treasury instruments; direct equity investments across financial leasing, insurance, real estate development, manufacturing, and food security industries; and asset management and Islamic mutual fund administration. The bank also manages a dedicated Zakat Fund and extends benevolent interest-free loans (Qard Hasan) for social development purposes. The bank maintains equity holdings in various subsidiaries and associated companies, including entities in Takaful insurance, securities brokerage, asset management, and commercial enterprises. In recent developments, Faisal Islamic Bank of Egypt has executed several strategic, operational, and capital adjustments. The bank completed phased increases to its issued and paid-up capital through the capitalization of reserves and bonus share issuances to fulfill regulatory capital requirements established by the Central Bank of Egypt under the Egyptian Banking Law. To advance its digital transformation strategy, the bank integrated its core digital banking architecture with the national Instant Payment Network (InstaPay), expanded contactless payment acceptance, and launched upgraded features across its retail mobile and internet banking platforms. Additionally, the bank has broadened its physical footprint through the opening of new smart branches and specialized SME financing hubs, while expanding its underwriting and participation in large-scale syndicated Islamic financing arrangements for domestic industrial, infrastructure, and renewable energy projects.
