- Misr Fertilizers Production Company S.A.E. (MOPCO) is an Egypt-based industrial manufacturer primarily engaged in the production, marketing, and global distribution of nitrogen-based fertilizers, petrochemicals, and related chemical derivatives. The company operates a fully integrated petrochemical manufacturing complex in the Damietta Public Free Zone, producing a core product portfolio that comprises; granular urea for agricultural soil enrichment and commercial crop cultivation; anhydrous liquid ammonia used as an essential industrial chemical feedstock, refrigerant, and direct-application nutrient; and high-purity urea solutions, including diesel exhaust fluid (AdBlue/DEF) utilized for nitrogen oxide emissions reduction in automotive and industrial diesel engines.
MOPCO serves both domestic and international markets, distributing a designated portion of its urea output to the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture to support national food security while exporting the majority of its fertilizers and ammonia to commercial agribusinesses, blenders, and industrial chemical distributors across Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
In recent strategic and operational developments, MOPCO finalized a landmark statutory merger with its primary manufacturing subsidiary, Egyptian Nitrogen Products Company (ENPC), consolidating operations, asset bases, and administrative structures to optimize capital efficiency and elevate its total annual production capacity to approximately 2 million metric tons of granular urea and 1.2 million metric tons of ammonia. In addition, the company has undertaken major energy transition and portfolio diversification initiatives, including entering strategic partnerships and joint development agreements to construct green ammonia and green hydrogen production facilities in Damietta, advancing feasibility studies for a dedicated green methanol bunkering facility for maritime vessels, and launching a project to develop a new industrial melamine production unit to expand into higher-margin specialty chemical markets.
Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, MOPCO operates under the supervision of the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, with major equity ownership held by state-affiliated entities including the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), alongside significant strategic shareholdings by sovereign investment entities such as the Saudi Egyptian Investment Company (a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund) and ADQ.
