Business
The Eastern Company (Nasdaq: EML) designs, manufactures and sells engineered solutions to industrial markets in the United States and internationally. Founded in 1858 and headquartered in Shelton, Connecticut, the company operates through three main segments: returnable packaging products; metal products, including blow molding tools and stretch blow molds; and fastening and closure control products. It offers turnkey returnable packaging solutions, such as custom dunnage for assembly processes of vehicles, aircraft and durable goods, as well as production of plastic packaging, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals; blow mold tools, injection blow mold tooling, 2-step stretch blow molds and change parts supplied to the food, beverage, healthcare and chemical industries; rotary latches, compression latches, draw latches, hinges, camlocks, key switches, padlocks and handles with development and program management services for custom electromechanical and mechanical systems for OEMs; and proprietary vision technology plus aftermarket components for heavy- and medium-duty trucks, motorhomes and buses. The company serves diverse sectors including automotive, aerospace, defense, commercial transportation, industrial equipment and consumer goods manufacturers through decentralized business units emphasizing precision engineering, custom design and quality control. In recent developments, Eastern completed the sale of Big 3 Molds' ISBM business unit on April 30, 2025, to streamline operations under new leadership focused on sales growth, cost reduction and efficiency; initiated a new share repurchase program in May 2025; reduced debt by $5.9 million; repurchased 82,000 shares for $2.1 million year-to-date through Q3 2025; optimized Big 3 Precision's footprint and mitigated tariff impacts; secured Eberhard's role in the U.S. Postal Service's new fleet program; and entered a new $100 million credit facility to support long-term growth amid a 22% sales decline in Q3 2025 versus the prior year.
