Business
Euronav NV, an independent owner and operator of oil tankers, engages in the maritime transportation and storage of crude oil and petroleum products worldwide. The company owns and operates a modern fleet comprising very large crude carriers (VLCCs), Suezmax tankers, V-Plus vessels, and floating storage and offloading (FSO) units; it provides spot market chartering through pools such as Tankers International, long-term time charters, voyage charters, ship management services including technical, commercial, and operational management, as well as floating production, storage, and offloading operations. Euronav serves refineries and energy companies primarily in Europe and Asia with vessels flying Belgian, Greek, French, Marshall Islands, and Panamanian flags. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium, the company maintains offices across Europe and Asia, including major branches in Nantes, France, and Piraeus, Greece, and employs around 3,000 personnel. In a major strategic shift, Euronav completed the acquisition of CMB.TECH from its parent CMB NV in early 2024 for USD 1.15 billion, diversifying into low-carbon shipping, decarbonization technologies, and alternative energy segments while optimizing its crude oil tanker operations; this transaction, approved by shareholders, supports a flywheel strategy for sustainable shipping and includes priority rights on competing charter opportunities.
