Business
Vivendi SE operates as a French investment holding company focused on content, media, entertainment, and telecommunications sectors worldwide. Founded in 1853 as Compagnie Générale des Eaux and headquartered at 42 Avenue de Friedland in Paris, France, the company wholly owns Gameloft, a leading developer and publisher of video games for mobile, PC, console, and digital platforms including streaming, cloud gaming, and subscription services; it also holds strategic minority stakes in Universal Music Group (9.94%), the world's largest music company engaged in recorded music, music publishing, merchandise, and audiovisual content; Banijay Group (19.21%), a leader in audiovisual content production, television formats, and online sports betting; Lagardère (13.21%), a global player in publishing (including Hachette Book Group), travel retail, and distribution; MediaForEurope (19.78%), a European broadcaster involved in television channels, audiovisual production, and digital media; Prisa (11.87%), a Spanish-Portuguese leader in media, education, news, and entertainment content; TIM (2.51%), Italy's primary telecom operator with Brazilian operations offering fixed and mobile connectivity plus digital services; and Telefónica (1%). Vivendi targets consumer markets across Europe, the Americas, Asia/Oceania, and Africa through these assets, driving transformations in digital entertainment, content creation, and connectivity. In December 2024, Vivendi executed a major restructuring by spinning off Canal+ Group (international pay-TV and streaming), Havas (global advertising and communications), and Louis Hachette Group (publishing via 66.53% Lagardère stake and Prisma Media) into independent listed entities on Euronext Amsterdam, London Stock Exchange, and Euronext Growth Paris, respectively, while retaining its Paris listing as a streamlined investment vehicle; this followed shareholder approval in December 2024 and supervisory board endorsement in October 2024, aimed at unlocking value post-2021 Universal Music Group partial IPO.
