Business
Friedman Industries, Incorporated engages in the manufacture and processing of steel products in the United States, operating primarily through two segments: Flat-Roll Products and Tubular Products. The Flat-Roll Products segment operates seven coil processing facilities offering services including temper passing, stretcher leveling, slitting, and cut-to-length processing for a wide range of products such as hot-rolled coil (HRC), cold-rolled coil (CRC), coated, pre-painted, stainless steel, aluminum, and various non-ferrous materials. Key locations include facilities in Hickman, Arkansas; Decatur, Alabama; Miami, Florida; East Chicago, Indiana; Granite City, Illinois; and Sinton, Texas, with extensive inventories and just-in-time delivery capabilities. The Tubular Products segment, operating under the trade name Texas Tubular Products and headquartered in Lone Star, Texas, manufactures API 5L Line Pipe, ASTM A53B Pipe, and ASTM A500B Pipe on two electric resistance welded (ERW) pipe mills. Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Longview, Texas, Friedman Industries serves customers manufacturing steel products, steel distributors, and pipe distributors across North America. In August 2025, the company completed a strategic acquisition of Century Metals and Supplies, Inc., a Miami-based company with distribution facilities in Orlando and Tampa, Florida. This acquisition expanded Friedman’s presence in the southeastern U.S. and Latin American markets, adding coil slitting capabilities and broadening its product portfolio to include cold-rolled, coated, stainless steels, and non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and copper. Century Metals continues to operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary with its management team intact. This move diversifies Friedman’s offerings and enhances its competitive positioning in growing markets such as residential construction and corrosion-resistant materials. Recent operational enhancements include a $1.9 million processing line upgrade at the Decatur, Alabama facility in 2024, enhancing capacity and efficiency. Leadership changes include the appointment of Gaurav Chhibbar as Chief Operating Officer in July 2025, bringing extensive experience in operations, strategy, and corporate finance from prior roles at Boston Consulting Group and Cargill Inc. The company reported record quarterly sales of $152.4 million in Q3 2025, with net earnings of $2.2 million and a sales volume record of 154,500 tons with an additional 24,500 tons of toll processing. These results reflect successful capacity utilization improvements and integration progress from recent acquisitions, positioning Friedman Industries for sustainable growth and enhanced market presence in steel service center operations.
