Business
Fuel Tech, Inc. (Nasdaq: FTEK) develops, commercializes, and applies proprietary technologies for air pollution control, process optimization, combustion efficiency, and advanced engineering services; its Air Pollution Control (APC) segment offers nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction solutions including NOxOUT and HERT SNCR systems, Rich Reagent Injection (RRI) systems, ASCR Advanced Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, low NOx burners, over-fire air systems, ULTRA ammonia generation processes, XCAM ammonia measurement systems, Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) enhancements, and Flue Gas Conditioning (FGC) systems; the Chemical Technologies segment provides TIFI Targeted In-Furnace Injection programs to control slagging, fouling, corrosion, opacity, sulfur trioxide, ammonium bisulfate, particulate matter (PM2.5), carbon dioxide (CO2), and HCl emissions via HClear programs; additional offerings encompass DGI Dissolved Gas Infusion for water treatment, REDOX chemical additives for mercury control, boiler testing, combustion optimization, SCR management services, and flow corrective devices such as GSG Graduated Straightening Grid, supported by proprietary Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling. Incorporated in 1987 and headquartered in Warrenville, Illinois, the company maintains additional U.S. offices in Durham, North Carolina; Stamford, Connecticut; and Westlake, Ohio, alongside international locations in Milan, Italy, and Beijing, China; it serves utility, industrial, power generation, municipal wastewater, and aquaculture customers worldwide, with over 1,300 APC installations on units burning coal, fuel oil, natural gas, biomass, municipal waste, and other fuels. In late 2025, Fuel Tech acquired intellectual property assets and customer-related activities from Wahlco, Inc., for $350,000 to expand its APC solutions portfolio and global market opportunities; the acquisition complements existing SCR technologies amid rising demand for emissions control in power generation supporting data centers and utilities; the company also reported a 20% increase in APC backlog from mid-2025 levels, FUEL CHEM revenues of $4.8 million in Q3 2025 driven by new contracts, and expectations for segment revenues to reach highest levels since 2022.
