The company serves industries such as chemicals, petroleum, agriculture, food and transportation across North America, Europe and India. In May 2025, GATX formed a joint venture with Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, acquiring approximately 105,000 railcars from Wells Fargo Rail for $4.4 billion, with GATX holding an initial 30% equity stake and an option to increase to 100% over time; in September 2025, GATX Rail Europe agreed to purchase about 6,000 freight railcars from Deutsche Bahn, further expanding its European fleet.
