Business
Nyrstar N.V. (NYR.BR) operates as a global multi-metals producer focused on zinc, lead, and other critical metals, sourcing zinc concentrate worldwide for processing into refined products at smelters across multiple continents. The company manufactures refined zinc and zinc alloys; refined lead including market lead at 99.97% and 99.99% purity, lead-antimony alloys, copperised-lead alloys, calcium-lead alloys, and calcium tin-lead alloys; other metals such as antimony, gold, silver, and precious metals; sulphuric acid; and various by-products. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Balen, Belgium, Nyrstar conducts mining, smelting, and processing operations in Europe including Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Norway; the Americas encompassing the United States, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Honduras; Australia at sites like Port Pirie and Hobart; and other regions, serving markets in construction, infrastructure, transport, electronics, and high-technology manufacturing. In 2025, Nyrstar secures $135 million in transitional funding from the Australian federal, South Australian, and Tasmanian governments to sustain its Port Pirie and Hobart operations amid challenging market conditions, enabling ongoing investments, workforce retention of around 1,400 direct employees in Australia, and feasibility studies for critical metals production including antimony, bismuth, germanium, and indium. Recent milestones include the successful casting of first antimony metal from a pilot plant at Port Pirie in November 2025 and confirmation of non-binding support in October 2025, alongside commitments backed by shareholder Trafigura to advance smelter rebuilds and expand strategic metals output.
