Business
Modulight Oyj designs, manufactures and markets semiconductor lasers, laser modules, complete cloud-connected laser systems and related software and analytics services for biomedical, medical and high value-add applications worldwide; its core products include the ML7710 multi-wavelength multi-channel clinical laser platform for oncology endoscopy and photosensitizer therapies, the ML6710i ophthalmic laser for retinal photodynamic therapy, the ML8500 automated well plate illuminator for biomedical research with incubation capabilities, and the ML6600 tailorable platform for flow cytometry, quantum computing, microscopy and diagnostics, spanning wavelengths from UV to over 3000 nm with powers from milliwatts to hundreds of watts; the company also provides tailored laser solutions via in-house epitaxial growth, optics assembly and system integration, alongside services such as pay-per-treatment cloud models, lifecycle maintenance, regulatory support, training and calibration. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Tampere, Finland, Modulight operates a vertically integrated III-V semiconductor fab and serves pharmaceutical companies, Fortune 500 firms, cancer centers, hospitals and research institutions primarily in the United States, Europe and Asia. In 2024, the company expanded its pay-per-treatment business model with installations growing from around ten to 47 devices including first entry into Australia, advanced its product development pipeline to 30 projects focused on oncology Phase 3 trials and new indications like eye cancer, secured orders from two new pharmaceutical companies, achieved four consecutive quarters of order backlog growth culminating in EUR 3.0 million added in Q4, improved EBITDA to EUR -4.8 million from -8.5 million and operating cash flow by 87%, and transitioned production facilities to geothermal heating for emission reductions toward carbon neutrality in 2025.
