CU Inc., its wholly-owned subsidiary, manages rate-regulated utility operations in natural gas and electricity with $19 billion in assets and around 3,850 employees. Recent developments include the sale of its electricity and natural gas retail business, ATCO Energy Ltd., to ATCO Ltd. on August 1, 2024; substantial capital investments totaling $402 million in the third quarter of 2025 and $382 million in the second quarter, with 95% directed to regulated utilities in ATCO Energy Systems and ATCO Australia; advancement of the $2.8 billion Yellowhead Pipeline Project in natural gas transmission, which received Alberta Utilities Commission approval on its Needs Assessment Application in Q3 2025 and filed the Facilities Application thereafter, targeting construction start in 2026 pending further approvals and Indigenous equity partnerships; and progress on the Central East Transfer-Out (CETO) electricity transmission project, with construction underway since Q3 2024, fall 2025 season activities initiated, and 85 kilometers of line on track for energization by June 2026 at an estimated $255-280 million cost to integrate over 1,500 MW of renewable energy into Alberta's grid serving Red Deer, Lacombe, and Stettler counties. In November 2025, the company announced and closed a preferred share issue to bolster its financial position. These initiatives underscore its focus on utility infrastructure growth, energy transition, and operational resiliency amid a commitment to net-zero GHG emissions by 2050.
