Business
Ferrexpo plc is a Swiss-headquartered iron ore company that mines, processes, produces, markets and exports premium high-grade iron ore pellets and concentrates to global steelmakers, enabling the transition to lower-carbon steel production. The company operates vertically integrated open-pit mining and processing facilities in central Ukraine, including the Poltava Mining and Enrichment Complex, Yeristovo Mining and Enrichment Complex and Belanovo Mining and Enrichment Complex within the Kremenchug Magnetic Anomaly; it produces pellets grading 65-67% Fe content for blast furnaces, Direct Reduction (DR) pellets, Fluxed DR Pellets (FDP) and high-grade commercial iron ore concentrates grading 67% Fe, all delivered via rail, river barge, Black Sea ports or ocean vessels. Ferrexpo serves premium steel mills in Europe (Austria, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany), Asia (China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, India), Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa from sales offices in London, Dubai, Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo; founded in 1960 as the Poltava Mining and Extraction Combinat, it listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2007 under ticker FXPO.L and maintains its registered office in London with headquarters in Baar, Switzerland. In recent developments, Ferrexpo increased concentrate production to 36% of its mix in the first half of 2025 to meet strong Asian demand, exported 60% of sales via restored Ukrainian Black Sea ports including 11 capesize vessels to Asia, expanded Fluxed DR Pellet sales to new Middle East customers for low-emissions direct reduction steelmaking, and faced operational challenges from suspended VAT refunds by Ukrainian tax authorities leading to downscaled production to one pellet line, workforce furloughs and a US$154 million impairment charge, while recording record Q1 2025 output prior to these constraints.
