Business
The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. operates as a global financial institution providing investment banking, securities, trading, financing, investment management, wealth management and consumer-platform services to corporations, financial institutions, governments and individuals. The Canadian Depositary Receipt listed under ticker GS.TO represents an interest in registered shares of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.; it is not a separate operating company. Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869 and is headquartered in New York, New York, with offices and client operations across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The company operates through Global Banking & Markets; Asset & Wealth Management; and Platform Solutions. Global Banking & Markets provides financial advisory services relating to mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate defenses, restructurings and other strategic transactions; equity and debt underwriting; initial public offerings; follow-on offerings; private placements; leveraged-finance and investment-grade financing; lending and capital solutions; cash-management and transaction-banking services; market making and execution in equities, fixed income, currencies, commodities, credit products, interest-rate products, mortgages and other securities; prime brokerage; securities lending; clearing; custody; research; derivatives structuring; hedging; risk-management solutions; and financing across public and private markets. In 2025, Goldman Sachs established its Capital Solutions Group to combine financing, origination, structuring and risk-management capabilities for clients across public and private markets. Asset & Wealth Management provides investment products and advisory services to institutions, financial intermediaries, retirement plans, insurers, sovereign wealth funds, family offices and high-net-worth individuals. Its offerings include public equity, fixed-income, money-market, multi-asset, alternative, private-equity, private-credit, infrastructure, real-estate, hedge-fund, secondaries and venture-capital strategies; separately managed accounts; mutual funds; exchange-traded funds; model portfolios; retirement and wealth solutions; portfolio management; financial planning; brokerage; lending; deposits; custody; trust and estate-planning services; and outsourced chief investment officer and advisory services. The business also manages Goldman Sachs Alternatives and External Investing Group investment strategies, including secondary-market and venture-capital solutions. Platform Solutions provides transaction banking, cash-management, payments, deposit-taking, lending, credit-card and embedded-finance technology services. The segment serves corporate and institutional clients through digital platforms and banking infrastructure, including payment-processing, accounts, liquidity-management and related financial-technology capabilities. Goldman Sachs has shifted its operating strategy toward its core Global Banking & Markets and Asset & Wealth Management franchises while continuing to streamline and reposition its platform-oriented activities. Its 2025 One Goldman Sachs 3.0 operating model emphasizes firmwide integration and the application of artificial intelligence. Recent strategic actions center on expanding recurring, fee-based asset- and wealth-management revenues and broadening alternatives and active-ETF capabilities. Goldman Sachs formed a collaboration with T. Rowe Price to offer public- and private-market investment solutions for retirement and wealth investors, including co-branded model portfolios. In January 2026, the company acquired Industry Ventures, adding venture-capital investing capabilities to its External Investing Group and secondaries franchise. In December 2025, Goldman Sachs announced the acquisition of Innovator Capital Management, an outcome-based active ETF provider, for approximately $2.0 billion in cash and equity, subject to performance targets and closing conditions. In August 2026, Goldman Sachs agreed to acquire NEOS Investments for up to $2.25 billion in cash and equity, adding approximately $30 billion to $32 billion of systematic options-based income ETF assets and expanding its active ETF platform; the transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to approvals and other customary conditions. Also in August 2026, the company agreed to acquire LCN Capital Partners, a real-estate investment manager focused on sale-leaseback, build-to-suit and triple-net-lease strategies, with closing expected by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and closing conditions. In September 2026, Goldman Sachs Asset Management announced a Canadian advisory partnership with IG Wealth Management under which its Multi-Asset Solutions team is to manage five IG Strategic Wealth Portfolios.
