- BIDV Insurance Corporation (HOSE:BIC), commonly known as BIC, is a Vietnam-based non-life insurance company primarily engaged in providing underwriting, reinsurance, and financial risk management solutions to retail, commercial, and institutional clients. The company operates through two core business segments: Non-Life Insurance Underwriting and Financial Investment. Its comprehensive portfolio of insurance products and services comprises motor vehicle insurance, including compulsory civil liability, comprehensive auto physical damage, and motorcycle coverage; property and casualty insurance, featuring commercial fire, explosion, special perils, and industrial all-risks policies; engineering and construction insurance, covering contractor all-risks, erection all-risks, and machinery breakdown; marine and aviation insurance, encompassing domestic and international marine cargo, hull, and protection and indemnity (P&I) covers; health and personal accident insurance, marketed under brand lines including BIC Smart Care, BIC Care, student accident policies, and international travel insurance; liability insurance, including public liability, product liability, employer liability, directors and officers (D&O) liability, and professional indemnity; and specialized corporate covers, including business interruption, credit insurance, and cyber risk protection. BIC delivers integrated bancassurance products across the national banking network of its parent institution and provides direct-to-consumer digital underwriting, policy administration, and digital claims filing through its proprietary My BIC mobile application and BIDV digital banking platforms. In addition to direct insurance operations, BIC conducts outward and inward reinsurance transactions and manages investment portfolios in fixed-income securities and bank deposits.
Originally established in 1999 as the Vietnam-Australia Insurance Joint Venture Company (VIA), the corporation was restructured as BIDV Insurance Company in 2006, transformed into a joint-stock company in 2010, and listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange in 2011. Headquartered in Hanoi, Vietnam, BIC operates nationwide through dozens of member companies, branches, and transaction offices across Vietnam, and maintains cross-border operations in Southeast Asia through its Lao-Viet Insurance Joint Venture Company (LVI) subsidiary in Laos. The corporation operates as a consolidated subsidiary of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), which holds a 51% controlling stake, alongside Canadian insurance group Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, which holds a 35% strategic equity interest through Fairfax Asia Limited.
In recent operational and strategic developments, BIC has undertaken corporate governance restructuring and long-term capital expansion. In May 2025, the corporation elected a new Board of Directors and appointed a new Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer for the 2025–2030 term to align its executive leadership with strategic shareholders BIDV and Fairfax Asia. The company approved a multi-year capital increase roadmap for the 2025–2030 period, designed to expand its charter capital and underwriting capacity through retained earnings and stock dividend distributions while maintaining its core shareholding structure. Concurrently, BIC has expanded its digital ecosystem by integrating automated claim evaluation tools, digital insurance portals, and application programming interfaces with the BIDV Open API and Omni BIDV iBank banking systems. Global credit rating agency AM Best affirmed BIC's Financial Strength Rating of B++ (Good), Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of bbb (Good), and Vietnam National Scale Rating of aaa.VN (Exceptional) with a stable outlook, reflecting balance sheet strength, operating profitability, and technical support from Fairfax Asia.
