- PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) is a Vietnam-based power generation and utility enterprise primarily engaged in the development, operation, and management of power plants, as well as the production and commercial distribution of electricity. Established in 2007 as a subsidiary of the state-owned Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), the company is headquartered in Hanoi, Vietnam, and operates power generation assets across key economic regions in Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnam. PV Power operates through several specialized business segments, including gas-fired power, coal-fired thermal power, hydroelectricity, renewable energy, and power engineering services.
The company provides an extensive portfolio of power generation products, technical solutions, and utility services, including: thermal electricity generation through natural gas-fired combined-cycle gas turbine power plants, such as the Ca Mau 1 and 2, Nhon Trach 1, and Nhon Trach 2 facilities; base-load electricity generation through coal-fired thermal power facilities, including the Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant; renewable hydroelectric power generation through utility-scale facilities such as the Hua Na and DakDrinh hydropower plants; solar energy generation, featuring rooftop solar installations and commercial-scale solar systems; power plant operations, maintenance, technical overhaul, and engineering repair services for thermal and hydroelectric turbines; procurement, supply, and installation of specialized industrial electrical equipment, machinery, and spare parts; project investment management, engineering consultancy, and construction management for energy infrastructure projects; and electricity wholesale trading and ancillary grid-support services.
PV Power primarily serves the national electrical grid through long-term power purchase agreements with Vietnam Electricity (EVN), while also supplying power, engineering solutions, and technical services to industrial zones, commercial enterprises, and provincial utility systems. The company operates a network of subsidiaries and affiliated entities, including PetroVietnam Power Services Joint Stock Company, PetroVietnam Power Nhon Trach 2 Joint Stock Company, Hua Na Hydropower Joint Stock Company, and DakDrinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company.
In recent developments, PV Power is executing a major strategic transition toward liquefied natural gas (LNG) and low-carbon energy infrastructure. The company is advancing the construction and commercial preparation of the Nhon Trach 3 and Nhon Trach 4 power plants in Dong Nai Province, representing Vietnam's first commercial LNG-to-power project with a combined capacity of approximately 1,500 megawatts. In addition, PV Power has formed a strategic consortium with domestic and international partners to develop the Quang Ninh LNG Power project, expanding its footprint in next-generation gas power generation. The company has also established strategic technical and financing partnerships with global technology leaders, including GE Vernova and Samsung C&T, for advanced high-efficiency gas turbine systems and digitalized plant management solutions. Furthermore, PV Power continues to accelerate its corporate decarbonization roadmap by scaling up investments in commercial rooftop solar, exploring offshore wind and green hydrogen initiatives, and integrating advanced automated dispatch and predictive maintenance technologies across its operating fleet to enhance operational efficiency within the Vietnam Wholesale Electricity Market (VWEM).
