- Can Don Hydro Power Joint Stock Company is a Vietnam-based renewable energy utility and independent power producer primarily engaged in the generation, transmission, and wholesale distribution of hydroelectric power. Founded in 1998, converted to a joint stock entity in 2004, and operating as a subsidiary of Song Da Corporation, the company is headquartered in Bu Dop District, Binh Phuoc Province, Vietnam. The company owns, operates, and manages a portfolio of run-of-river and reservoir hydroelectric generation facilities across Vietnam, anchored by its flagship 77.6-megawatt (MW) Can Don Hydropower Plant located on the Be River in Binh Phuoc Province, alongside the 9.3 MW Na Loi Hydropower Plant in Dien Bien Province and the 3.6 MW Ry Ninh II Hydropower Plant in Gia Lai Province.
The company operates across diversified power and infrastructure business segments, offering core products and services that include: wholesale commercial electricity generation supplied directly to the national power grid under long-term power purchase agreements with state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN); engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for electric power systems, power transmission lines, high-voltage transformer substations, civil engineering projects, industrial facilities, and irrigation works; electromechanical technical services, including turbine overhaul, generator maintenance, condition monitoring, electrical testing, and equipment calibration for hydro generation facilities; commercial trading and distribution of specialized industrial machinery, electrical equipment, spare parts, and construction supplies; and secondary reservoir management activities comprising commercial aquaculture, fishery operations, and regional eco-tourism services.
In recent strategic and operational developments, Can Don Hydro Power Joint Stock Company has advanced its renewable energy pipeline in alignment with Vietnam's Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), conducting investment preparation and regulatory feasibility studies for a 38.8 MW capacity expansion of the Can Don Hydropower Plant as well as floating solar photovoltaic (PV) projects on the Can Don reservoir totaling up to 399 MWp across planned phases. To enhance operational reliability, the company executed major modernization and overhaul programs across its generation units, including upgrading the digital speed governor and control instrumentation for turbine Unit H1 at the Can Don facility. Administratively, the company completed an internal operational restructuring by establishing a centralized Electromechanical Technical Services Center to optimize maintenance workflows and expand third-party technical service contracting. In addition, the company entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Vietnam Development Bank (Transaction Center II) to secure capital financing and credit facilities for its clean energy project pipeline.
