Business
ING Groep N.V. is a Dutch banking and financial services group headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and founded in 1991 through the merger of Nationale-Nederlanden and NMB Postbank Groep, with roots dating to 1762. The company provides retail and commercial banking, wholesale banking, private banking and wealth management, payments, cash management, lending, mortgages, consumer and business loans, deposit accounts, investment products, treasury services, trade finance, financial markets solutions, and, in some markets, insurance and asset management services, serving individual customers, small and medium-sized enterprises, corporates, financial institutions, and institutional investors across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, other European markets, and internationally. ING operates through Retail Netherlands, Retail Belgium, Retail Germany, Retail Other, Wholesale Banking, and Corporate Line segments, with its business centered on digital retail banking and a focused international wholesale franchise. In 2025, the group reported total income of about €23.0 billion and continued growth in customer balances and fee income, while management raised its 2027 financial ambitions to more than €25 billion in total income, more than €5 billion in fee income, and a return on tangible equity above 15%. Recent strategic developments include the announced acquisition of the remaining stake in Goldman Sachs TFI to expand private banking and wealth management, with completion expected in the first half of 2026, and the rebranding of that business to ING TFI after completion. ING also says it is investing further in digital solutions, AI-based use cases, and process automation, while expanding investment and pension offerings and broadening its lending and deposit base.
