Business
International Seaways, Inc. (INSW) owns and operates a fleet of oceangoing tanker vessels providing maritime transportation services for crude oil, refined petroleum products, and chemical cargoes in international markets; its core offerings include crude tanker services via very large crude carriers (VLCCs), Suezmaxes, and Aframaxes/LR2s, product carrier services encompassing long-range 1 (LR1) and medium-range (MR) tankers, and chemical tanker operations, with vessels deployed through voyage charters, time charters, and commercial pools. The company, headquartered in New York City and commencing operations in 2016 following the spin-off from Overseas Shipholding Group, maintains a fleet of approximately 75 to 81 vessels serving global energy traders, producers, and refiners across major shipping routes worldwide. International Seaways operates through two primary segments, Crude Tankers and Product Carriers, targeting spot and contract markets in regions including North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In recent developments, the company pursues active fleet renewal by selling older vessels, including eight ships in 2025 for about $100 million and six MR tankers plus others in 2024-2025 to fund acquisitions such as a scrubber-fitted 2020-built VLCC for $119 million in August 2025 and an eco VLCC; it has ordered six scrubber-fitted, dual-fuel LNG-ready LR1 newbuildings from K Shipbuilding in Korea, secured a $330 million financing deal for these vessels, and awarded full technical and crew management to V. Group, while participating in pools like the Panamax International Pool for optimized crude transport. These strategic moves enhance operational efficiency, reduce fleet age, and position International Seaways for long-term growth amid fluctuating tanker rates.
