Business
Heidelberg Materials AG, formerly known as HeidelbergCement AG until its rebranding in September 2022, is a German multinational company headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany, specializing in the manufacture and distribution of building materials. The company’s core products and services encompass cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, and asphalt, with operations spanning over 50 countries supported by approximately 51,000 employees and nearly 3,000 production sites. Heidelberg Materials operates around 130 cement plants with an annual production capacity of about 170 million tonnes of cement, around 1,300 ready-mixed concrete plants, and nearly 600 aggregates quarries. The company serves the construction materials industry globally, including significant markets in North America, Europe, and Asia. In terms of recent major changes, Heidelberg Materials has advanced its sustainability and innovation agenda by launching the world's first carbon capture and storage (CCS)-based net-zero cement and concrete products under the evoZero® brand, enabled by the industrial-scale carbon capture facility at its Brevik cement plant in Norway. It also introduced the evoBuild® brand for low-carbon and circular products, harmonizing its sustainable product portfolio globally. In 2024, the company secured sizable funding for the largest carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) project worldwide in the USA, underlining its strategic shift towards decarbonizing building materials. Furthermore, Heidelberg Materials completed the acquisition of Giant Cement Holding Inc. in early 2025, strengthening its footprint in the southeastern US and New England markets, and enhancing its offerings in sustainable, circular economy-based cement production. The company is actively developing the GeZero project in Germany, aiming to transform its Geseke plant into the first inland cement plant in Germany with large-scale CCS technology, underscoring its leadership in climate responsibility and innovation. This long-established company, founded in 1874, maintains a focus on the integration of digital solutions and intelligent building materials, driving sustainability across its product segments of cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, and asphalt while targeting markets that demand eco-friendly construction solutions worldwide. Heidelberg Materials continues to operate as a DAX-listed entity and remains committed to supporting global construction needs through a blend of traditional expertise and cutting-edge environmental technologies.
