Business
Fincantieri S.p.A. Fincantieri S.p.A. is a leading global shipbuilding group specializing in the design, construction, and conversion of high-technology vessels across cruise, naval, offshore, and specialized sectors; it offers comprehensive services including ship repairs, production of mechanical and electrical systems and components, naval interior design solutions, electronic and software systems, infrastructure development, marine projects, and post-sales support. The company operates through key segments encompassing cruise ships and expedition vessels, naval vessels for major navies including the Italian Navy and US Navy, offshore oil and gas support vessels, offshore wind farm vessels, ferries, mega yachts, specialized ships for open ocean aquaculture, drillships, semi-submersible drilling rigs, and advanced mechatronics integration for naval and onshore applications. Founded in 1959 as a holding company for Italian shipyards and restructured as an operating entity in 1984, Fincantieri S.p.A. maintains headquarters in Trieste, Italy, with primary design centers in Trieste and Genoa, and a global production network of 18 shipyards across four continents employing over 20,000 workers worldwide while generating approximately 90,000 jobs in Italy. The company serves major cruise operators, naval defense clients through European partnership programs, and offshore energy markets, with a heritage exceeding 230 years and more than 7,000 ships built. Recent developments include the completion of the acquisition of Remazel in February 2024 for high-complexity topside equipment and launch systems for underwater vehicles, followed by the finalization in January 2025 of Leonardo S.p.A.'s Underwater Armament Systems business for €300-415 million to bolster underwater defense leadership; additional 2023-2025 agreements encompass partnerships with Leonardo for sensors and electronics, C.A.B.I. Cattaneo for underwater vehicles, Sonsub for subsea technologies, WSense for monitoring systems, and a September 2025 MoU with Aeronautical Service for innovative applications; ongoing strategic initiatives feature a November 2025 support vessel contract for the Italian Navy and a partnership reshape for the US Navy's Constellation-class program at Fincantieri Marinette Marine.
