Business
Century Therapeutics, Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company specializing in the development of allogeneic, induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cell therapies targeting autoimmune diseases and cancer. The company’s core product offerings include engineered immune effector cell therapies such as natural killer (NK) and T cell therapies derived from iPSCs, designed to overcome limitations of earlier cell therapies. Its pipeline features candidates like CNTY-101 and CNTY-102 targeting B-cell malignancies and autoimmune diseases; CNTY-107 for Nectin-4-expressing solid tumors; and CNTY-106 for multiple myeloma. Additionally, the company is advancing a new iPSC-derived beta islet cell program, CNTY-813, for Type 1 diabetes using its proprietary Allo-Evasion™ cell engineering platform to enhance immune evasion and efficacy. Century operates primarily in the United States with global research and clinical development activities. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Century Therapeutics has recently undergone significant strategic developments. In 2024, it acquired Clade Therapeutics, a Boston-based biotechnology firm, expanding its pipeline and Allo-Evasion™ platform capabilities with added iPSC-derived αβ T cell programs for cancer and autoimmune diseases. The acquisition was supported by a $60 million private placement led by institutional investors. In 2022, Century entered a strategic collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS), receiving $100 million upfront and a $50 million equity investment, to develop iPSC-derived NK and T cell therapies for hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, although BMS later scaled back the collaboration in 2024 as part of a cost-cutting initiative. In 2025, Century reprioritized its pipeline to focus on its most promising assets, notably CNTY-101 and CNTY-308 for autoimmune and B-cell-mediated diseases, and announced their first investigator-initiated clinical trial for autoimmune diseases. The new beta islet cell program (CNTY-813) aims to enter IND-enabling studies by late 2025, marking a strategic extension into autoimmune and metabolic disease treatment areas. Century Therapeutics leverages advanced cellular reprogramming, genetic engineering, and manufacturing technologies to create scalable, off-the-shelf allogeneic cell therapy products. The company’s platform integrates CRISPR-based gene editing to enhance therapeutic performance and immune evasion. Its targeted customer base includes patients with relapsed or refractory hematologic cancers, solid tumors, and autoimmune diseases, seeking improved, accessible cell therapy options. Century maintains ongoing efforts to extend its clinical trial pipeline and drug development capabilities as it advances toward commercializing transformative cell-based therapies. This combination of allogeneic iPSC-derived NK and T cell therapies, innovative engineering platforms, strategic partnerships, and expanded pipeline programs positions Century Therapeutics as a leader in the emerging field of off-the-shelf cell therapy for cancer and autoimmune diseases. The company continues to extend its operational cash runway into 2027 with a focus on clinical progression and new therapeutic indications.
