Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) operates as South Korea's largest integrated electric utility, engaging in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity to residential, commercial, educational, industrial, agricultural, street lighting, and overnight customers domestically and internationally. The company generates power from diverse sources including nuclear, coal, oil, liquefied natural gas, internal combustion, combined-cycle, integrated gasification combined cycle, hydro, wind, solar, fuel cell, biogas, and others through its subsidiaries such as Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Korea South-East Power, Korea Midland Power, Korea Western Power, Korea Southern Power, and Korea East-West Power; it maintains a total installed capacity of approximately 85,424 megawatts across 848 units, a transmission network of 35,856 circuit kilometers and 925 substations, and a distribution system spanning 547,850 circuit kilometers with 148,176 megavolt-amperes transformer capacity. KEPCO also provides engineering and construction services for utility plants, maintenance, electric power IT, resource development, facility management, meter reading, security, nuclear fuel production, fly ash recycling, wood pellet utilization, and overseas power projects. Founded in 1961 and headquartered in Naju-si, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, the company conducts operations primarily in South Korea with international presence in regions including the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Americas, and Africa through offices in the United States, Japan, UAE, China, Vietnam, South Africa, UK, Iran, and Dominican Republic. In recent developments, KEPCO achieved financial close on the SAR 15 billion (USD 4 billion) Rumah 1 and Nairyah 1 independent power producer projects in Saudi Arabia in collaboration with ACWA Power and Saudi Electricity Company, holding a 30% stake in the 3,600 MW facilities; it signed a business agreement with Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeollanam-do Province to accelerate renewable energy integration and grid modernization in the Honam region targeting 42 GW by 2031; the company established its first long-term distribution plan committing 10.2 trillion won from 2024-2028 to add 255 circuits and 6,476 circuit kilometers for distributed energy expansion; and it declared a new 2025 vision to evolve into a global energy solution provider by 2035 with strategies for business upgrades, profit diversification, ecosystem innovation, and overseas growth including clean thermal power and digital e-businesses.
