Business
K+S AG is a Germany-based integrated producer of specialty fertilizers and premium salts for agriculture, industry, consumer, and health care markets. The company offers potash fertilizers, including granular and standard products under brands such as KALI and ESTA; nitrogen-based fertilizers; and salt products like industrial salts, de-icing salts, culinary salts, and bath salts; alongside water conditioning products and animal nutrition solutions. K+S AG operates production facilities primarily in Europe and North America, serving global markets with a focus on sustainable resource management and crop yield optimization. Founded in 1899 and headquartered in Kassel, Germany, the company manages potash, magnesium, and salt deposits through its segments: Fertilizer (potash and magnesium fertilizers for arable farming and specialty crops), Industrial (salts for chemical, industrial, and consumer applications), and Consumer (table, processing, and wellness salts). Subsidiaries include Morton Salt in North America for consumer and industrial salts, and K+S Potash Canada for fertilizer production in Saskatchewan. K+S targets farmers, food processors, industrial manufacturers, and retail consumers across Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. In the last two years, K+S AG completed the strategic acquisition of the Morton Salt business in 2022, significantly expanding its North American presence in premium and specialty salts; launched new sustainable fertilizer formulations aligned with EU Green Deal requirements; and formed partnerships for potash supply chain optimization amid global fertilizer shortages. The company reorganized its portfolio in 2024 to emphasize premium products, divesting non-core assets and investing in mine modernization at its Bethune facility in Canada for increased production capacity. These changes support K+S AG's shift toward resilient, low-emission operations amid volatile commodity markets.
