- dhSteel, officially known as Daeho Special Steel Co., Ltd. (KRX: 021040), is a South Korea-based specialty steel manufacturing company primarily engaged in the production, processing, and distribution of cold heading quality (CHQ) steel wires and cold drawn (CD) steel bars. Founded in September 1988 and headquartered in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, South Korea, the company operates within the specialty steel and metal fabrication sectors, delivering engineered raw materials and intermediate metal components to automotive, industrial machinery, electronics, and construction equipment manufacturers worldwide.
The company's core product portfolio encompasses two primary steel manufacturing divisions: Cold Heading Quality (CHQ) Wire and Cold Drawn (CD) Bar. Its CHQ Wire division manufactures processed steel wires produced through annealing, pickling, coating, and cold drawing of hot-rolled wire rods; product offerings include mild steel wires for general fasteners; machine structural carbon steel wires; cold heading carbon steel wires; alloy steel wires including chromium, chromium-molybdenum, and molybdenum formulations; boron-treated steel wires; and high-carbon bearing steel wires, utilized extensively in the fabrication of automotive fasteners, bolts, nuts, screws, rivets, and chassis components. Its CD Bar division manufactures precision cold drawn steel bars finished through drawing, cutting, polishing, and straightening processes; product lines include general structural rolled steel bars (SS series); machine structural carbon steel bars (S-C series); free-cutting steel bars (SUM series); alloy steel bars in heat-treated and non-heat-treated conditions; spring steel bars; bearing steel bars; and stainless steel bars, engineered for high-precision motor shafts, hydraulic parts, and industrial machine components. Geographically, dhSteel maintains domestic manufacturing infrastructure in South Korea and supports international markets across the Asia-Pacific region, the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East, supported by foreign operational ties including Daeho Special Steel Vina Co., Ltd. in Vietnam.
In recent strategic developments, dhSteel has implemented significant corporate restructurings, portfolio diversifications, and capital optimization programs. In April 2024, the company executed a strategic expansion into the technology sector by acquiring an 80% equity interest in IOYS Inc., a developer of generative artificial intelligence software and 3D digital content asset libraries, for approximately KRW 4 billion via treasury share transfer. In July 2023, dhSteel completed the absorption merger of affiliated wire producer Hanyoung Special Steel Co., Ltd., consolidating its production capacity and enhancing its market share in the cold heading wire segment. To streamline manufacturing efficiency and strengthen balance sheet liquidity, the company resolved in May 2024 to divest real estate and plant assets at its Yangsan manufacturing facility. Furthermore, dhSteel approved capital restructuring measures, including a reverse stock split to consolidate par value from KRW 2,500 to KRW 5,000 per share, aimed at improving share trading dynamics and long-term capital structure.
