Business
Kura Oncology, Inc. (KURA) develops precision medicines targeting cancer signaling pathways for blood cancers and solid tumors. The company focuses on small molecule drug candidates, including its lead menin inhibitor ziftomenib for NPM1-mutant and KMT2A-rearranged acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in monotherapy and combinations with therapies such as venetoclax/azacitidine, cytarabine/daunorubicin (7+3), gilteritinib, FLAG-IDA, and low-dose cytarabine (LDAC); next-generation farnesyl transferase inhibitor (FTI) darlifarnib (KO-2806) in monotherapy and combinations with cabozantinib or adagrasib for KRAS G12C-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), colorectal cancer (CRC), and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC); tipifarnib, an oral FTI, in combination with alpelisib for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) with HRAS mutations; and a next-generation menin inhibitor in research. Kura Oncology, founded in 2014, maintains headquarters in San Diego, California, with additional operations in Boston, Massachusetts, and conducts global clinical trials targeting genetically defined patient populations in oncology. In November 2024, the company enters a global strategic collaboration with Kyowa Kirin Co., Ltd. to co-develop and commercialize ziftomenib for AML and other hematologic malignancies, featuring a $330 million upfront payment, up to $1.161 billion in milestones including $420 million near-term, 50/50 U.S. profit-sharing, tiered double-digit royalties, and Kyowa Kirin's opt-in for solid tumors like gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST); Kura advances ziftomenib combinations to registration-enabling trials such as KOMET-017 for frontline AML in the second half of 2025, initiates Phase 1 KOMET-015 with imatinib for advanced GIST, and plans data presentations on FTIs at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress in October 2025.
