Kuraray operates production facilities across Japan, the United States, Europe and Asia, serving sectors including automotive, construction, packaging, textiles, electronics, healthcare and water purification. Founded in 1926 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company maintains global subsidiaries such as Kuraray America, Inc. and Kuraray Europe GmbH. Recent developments include the April 2025 acquisition of Nelumbo Inc. to integrate PFAS-free surface modification technology into polymers and fibers following a 2023 exclusive partnership; expansion of activated carbon production at Calgon Carbon's Pearl River Plant in Mississippi in 2024; acquisition of ISCC PLUS certification at three Japanese sites in September 2025 for vinyl acetate-related products; establishment of the Kuraray Asia Pacific Technical Center in Singapore in September 2025; launch of SCAPOVA AS PVA microcarrier for cell culture in November 2025; and major organizational changes effective January 2026.
