LION The Lion Electric Company (formerly Lion Electric Company) designs, develops, manufactures and distributes purpose-built all-electric medium- and heavy-duty urban vehicles, primarily focusing on school buses and commercial trucks; its core products include the LionC (Type C all-electric school bus), LionD (Type D all-electric school bus), Lion5, Lion6, Lion8 and Lion8 Tractor all-electric trucks, along with proprietary LionBattery systems, custom chassis, battery packs, cabins, powertrains, truck and bus parts and accessories. The company serves school transportation, urban commercial, transit and paratransit markets with vehicles offering various range and configuration options, such as 75- to 250-mile ranges powered by lithium-ion batteries and TM4 electric motors. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, Canada, LION assembles vehicles at its primary facility there and operates with a narrowed geographic focus on Quebec following recent restructuring. In 2025, following creditor protection proceedings initiated in December 2024 and emergence from bankruptcy, the company was acquired by a consortium of Quebec-based investors led by Pierre Wilkie and Vincent Chiara for $6 million, resulting in its renaming to LION, sale of U.S. manufacturing facilities (including Joliet, Illinois), cessation of Lion6 and Lion8 truck production, discontinuation of battery-pack production and full withdrawal from the U.S. market to concentrate on Quebec school bus operations.
