Business
LENSAR, Inc. (NASDAQ: LNSR) designs, develops, and markets advanced femtosecond laser systems for refractive cataract surgery and astigmatism management; its core offerings include the ALLY Robotic Cataract Laser Treatment System, a compact platform enabling sterile, single-room procedures with AI-integrated imaging and proprietary Streamline software for precision capsulotomy, lens fragmentation, corneal incisions, and astigmatism correction; the legacy LENSAR Laser System with IntelliAxis and Streamline IV technologies for automated 3D imaging, procedure planning, and efficiency enhancements; and associated consumable components such as disposable procedure kits. The company targets ophthalmic surgeons and surgery centers, generating the majority of revenue from the United States, with additional operations in Europe and Asia. Founded in 2004 and headquartered at 2800 Discovery Drive in Orlando, Florida, LENSAR focuses on robotic technologies to improve clinical outcomes, visual recovery, and operational efficiencies in the global cataract treatment market, which encompasses over 32 million annual procedures worldwide. In March 2025, LENSAR entered a definitive merger agreement with Alcon, under which Alcon plans to acquire all outstanding shares for $14 per share in cash, plus a contingent value right of up to $2.75 per share based on future procedure milestones, valuing the deal at approximately $356 million initially and up to $430 million; the transaction, aimed at bolstering Alcon's femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery portfolio, remains pending regulatory and stockholder approvals, with closure anticipated in mid-to-late 2025.
